How to Reset a Ford Door Code Without the Factory Code

Why You Need the Factory Code
Every Ford SecuriCode keypad has a permanent five-digit factory code. It is the only code that can add or erase personal codes, so you need it before you can reset anything. Your VIN will not open or reprogram the keypad.
Four Ways to Get the Factory Code
Start with the easiest one that fits your situation.
- Check the wallet card. It comes in the owner's manual packet in the glove box, if the previous owner kept it.
- Use two programmed keys. On keyed-ignition Fords: insert the first key, turn it to ON for about 4 seconds, then OFF and remove it. Insert the second key and turn it to ON. The factory code shows in the instrument cluster for a few seconds.
- Read the module label. The code is printed on the keyless entry module label, behind the passenger kick panel on many F-150s and behind cargo-area trim on some Explorers.
- Have Tom's Ford pull it. We can retrieve it with a scan tool. Ford releases it in person only, so bring your registration and a photo ID.
Set Your New Code
- Enter the factory code on the keypad.
- Press 1·2 within 5 seconds.
- Enter your new five-digit code, pressing each number within 5 seconds of the last.
- Press 1·2 to save it. The doors lock, then unlock, to confirm. To save extra codes in other slots, press 3·4, 5·6, 7·8 or 9·0 instead.
Prefer the touchscreen? On Fords with SYNC 3 or MyFord Touch, go to Settings → Vehicle → Door Keypad Code. You will still need the factory code.
Erase All Personal Codes
- Enter the factory code.
- Press and release 1·2.
- Within 5 seconds, press and hold 1·2 for 2 seconds. All personal codes are erased. The factory code still works.
Keypad flashing and not responding? After seven wrong entries it goes into anti-scan mode and shuts off for about a minute. Wait it out, or unlock with the fob.

Can I reset a Ford door code with the VIN?
No. The VIN alone will not unlock or reprogram the keypad. You need the five-digit factory code, which a Ford dealer can look up with proof of ownership.
How do I find my Ford factory keypad code without the card?
If you have two programmed keys, turn each to ON in turn and the code shows in the cluster. You can also read the keyless entry module label, or have a Ford dealer retrieve it.
Can I change the factory code?
No. It is permanent. You can add up to five personal codes and erase them any time.
